01 — Issue 12
Twelve photographers, one instruction: no people.
The brief went out in January and came back in six languages. What arrived was quieter than we expected and considerably stranger.
02 — Portfolio 01
Ana Ruíz — The Salt Flats, at four in the morning.
Shot over eleven nights on a 4×5 field camera. Ana walked out at two and waited for the sky to stop being black without yet being blue.
03 — Essay
Against the golden hour.
Every photograph you have ever been told is beautiful was taken in the same forty minutes. This issue is an argument for the other twenty-three hours.
04 — Portfolio 02
Tomas Wex — Municipal swimming pools, closed.
Fourteen pools across the north of England, all shut since 2019. Nobody is in any of the pictures, which is the point.
05 — Colophon
Printed in Ghent on 150gsm uncoated.
Two thousand copies, numbered. Set in Signifier and Söhne Mono. Sold out in eleven days, which we did not expect and cannot repeat.
